Researchers from the TBD Center—Dr. Steve Polzin, Dr. Irfan Batur, and Dr. Ram Pendyala—have contributed an insightful article to the Fall 2024 edition of the Census Transportation Planning Products (CTPP) Status Report. This newsletter, developed by the CTPP Planning Group with contributions from the transportation community, provides updates on the use of Census data products like the CTPP and their applications in transportation planning. The article explores emerging trends in activity-travel and time use patterns, leveraging data from key national surveys, including the American Community Survey (ACS), American Time Use Survey (ATUS), and Consumer Expenditure (CE) Survey.
This edition of the Status Report also highlights the Time Use, Travel, and Telework Dashboard (T3D), an innovative open-source tool developed by TOMNET and TBD Centers. T3D democratizes ATUS data, offering researchers, planners, and policymakers an interactive platform to analyze trends in time use, travel, and telework across diverse population segments. The dashboard enables detailed within- and cross-year comparisons, supporting a deeper understanding of evolving travel behaviors and guiding data-driven decisions in the transportation sector and beyond.
