The TBD National Center recently participated in the inaugural Future of Transportation (FoT) Summit, held August 13-15, 2024, at the U.S. Department of Transportation Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Organized by the National University Transportation Centers and led by the Safety21 National UTC at Carnegie Mellon University, this special event focused on harnessing research and technology for a better transportation future for all. The summit featured technical sessions, stakeholder panels, and technology demonstrations, addressing key areas like mobility, safety, infrastructure resilience, and transportation equity.
TBD Center Director Professor Chandra Bhat led key sessions on improving the mobility of people and goods. Additionally, TBD researchers shared significant contributions, including TBD Senior Advisor Dr. Steven Polzin, who presented “Observations on Emerging Trends in Travel Behavior,” and Dr. Irfan Batur (TBD Assistant Director), who introduced TBD’s data tools through his presentation, “Data Dashboards for Behavioral and Wellbeing Insights: A Focus on Time, Travel, and Telework”.
Angela Haddad, a TBD graduate student at The University of Texas at Austin, showcased TBD’s research with posters on pedestrian crash frequency and telemedicine adoption before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
These contributions underscored TBD’s crucial role in advancing the nation’s transportation system.
